Eileen Benthal is an author, speaker and certified coach with a special heart for people with disabilities and families who care for them. She is the author of Breathing Underwater: A Journey of Hope and co-author of Navigating Deep Waters: Meditations for Caregivers. Eileen’s new book: Breathing Underwater; A Caregiver’s Journey of Hope shares the wisdom she has learned through her eighteen year journey of caring for her youngest daughter, who struggles with a rare neurological disease and has had over 90 surgeries.
This journey of hope began with Eileen’s nightmare of being out in the middle of a dark ocean, treading water with her newborn baby in her arms. The dreams and the journey continued for years until one night God spoke to her in the dream. God told Eileen that she was in an ocean of God’s mercy and that she and her daughter could let go as He promised to teach them a new way of breathing-“how to breathe underwater.”
